Match Review: Juventus battle back over Chievo

The Bianconeri traveled to the north-eastern part of Italy to one of the more intimidating grounds, the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi, home of both Chievo and Hellas Verona. Chievo boss Giuseppe Sannino knew that his side had to start off well to avoid being swept away and, Cyril Thereau did exactly that. Thereau

The former Anderlecht forward gave the Flying Donkeys the lead in the 27th minute following a few errors by Juventus. Goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon failed to save the shot and, ended up digging the ball out of the back of the net. Juventus had dominated possession up to that point and seemed utterly frustrated going into the half down 0-1.

The second half started with no changes from either camp. Juventus continued to dominate the possession and flow of the game when Fabio Quagliarella scored in the 47th minute tying up the game. Juventus did not stop attacking after the game tying goal. Pirlo lashed balls down the middle searching for Llorente and Quagliarella but to no avail. The Old Lady were particularity efficient on the flanks after the introduction of Stephan Lichtsteiner. Quagliarella

However, throughout the course of the second half, many players made individual mistakes as it seemed that few players were off key. However, Juventus’ attempts finally came to fruition of a cruel deflection from Alessandro Bernandini went into the back of the net making the score 2-1 for the Old Lady. Juventus there would continue their efforts and almost scored a goal from Carlos Tevez.

The game flattened out during the last ten minutes as time waned down. Chievo had thrown on Sergio Pellissier in the dying moments of the game but to no avail. The final score was 2-1. (Thereau 27′, Quagliarella 47′, OG Bernardini 65′)
