Lazio fail to build upon their Europa League momentum, falling to Sassuolo in Rome.
The string of disappointing league results continued today for Lazio. The capital club was riding high following a 3-1 victory against Galatasaray but were the lesser team this evening. Brazilian defender Mauricio was repeatedly burned by the Sassuolo attack and conceded a clear penalty on a terrible tackle.
Following the game former Lazio captain Stefano Mauri spoke to Sky about the game.
“We played beneath our potential. The field did not help us in the first half, they defended well and countered. The episode of the penalty changed the game. We are too up and down, we alternate games in which we are quick and others in which we are unable to create any chances. Our team, however, has great potential and can play with anyone. But we have to play with a good rhythm and to help one another. League play is more difficult, you face closed defenses which gives us difficulty.”
