The rossoneri fell 2-0 in the first leg at home to Arsenal and face a tough uphill climb ahead. Here are the Milan player ratings for this evenings’s match.
Gianluigi Donarumma (6.5): Couldn’t do much about either goal as the first was a deflection and the second he was left on an island by his defence. Made some confutable saves throughout the match when he was called upon.
Davide Calabria (6.0): Took a knock on his right knee early on but continued to try and get in crossing positions on the right flank. Struggled to link up with Suso and was bothered at times by Mkhitaryan.
Leonardo Bonucci (5.5). Yet another deflection off the Italian ends up in the back of the net. Call it unlucky if you may, but he is often caught giving the opposition too much space in the final third without closing them down properly. Not a horrible performance from Leo but he will need to up his game in the second leg.
Alessio Romagnoli (6.5): Another comfortable performance for Romagnoli. Continues to ooze confidence and wasn’t at fault for any of the goals. His passing is continuing to improve and Milan will need him moving forward.
Riccardo Rodriguez (6.0): The Swiss international did his best to get involved in the attack but none of his crosses were turned home. Still a bit liable in defence at times but covered his ground today.
Frank Kessie (5.0): Not a great performance at all from the Ivorian as we was very wasteful in possession. Misplaced multiple passes and lacked vision when moving the ball up the pitch.
Lucas Biglia (5.0): Not really much to report on Biglia other than he loves to pass the ball backwards. Has been a disappointment since arriving from Lazio in the summer as he was expected to be much more efficient in moving the ball up the pitch.
Giacomo Bonaventura (5.0): Arguably one of his worst performances of the season, the former Atalanta man failed to connect on multiple good looks at goal. Simply not his day.
Suso (5.0): Another big disappointment on the evening. The Spaniard had his chance to shine on the big stage and did the complete opposite. While Arsenal kept close tabs on him throughout the match, he was knocked off the ball far to easily and proved that his right foot is still a significant weakness of his.
Hakan Calhanoglu (5.5): Had a promising start and was aggressive early on trying to create in attack. Seemingly faded as the match went on and was eventually substituted around the hour mark.
Patrick Cutrone (5.5): The 20 year old Italian was his usual pesky self applying pressure to Arsenal’s backline but had trouble staying on his feet. Only had one real chance in the match and toe poked it wide from a tight angle.
Nikola Kalinic (5.0): Came on for Calhanoglu with half hour to play and failed to make his mark on the match. Couldn’t get a touch on a dangerous Andre Silva through ball that could have pulled one back for the rossoneri.
Andre Silva (6.0): Came on for Cutrone with twenty minutes to play and looked lively in his link up play. Could possibly play from the start at the Emirates next Thursday with Milan in need of goals.
Fabio Borini (N/A): The player was not on the field long enough to properly assess.
