There is rarely a dull moment when it comes to Milan striker Mario Balotelli, and this summer you can be assured his name will surface often in the news. There will be discussions on his future and the eyes of the world will be upon him at the World Cup in Brazil. According to milannews.it, there will be serious consideration by the Milan brass to consider selling Balotelli to help out with the team’s financial situation.
With or without a Europa League qualification, this will be quite a summer for Mario Balotelli. The 23 year-old rossonero striker is expected to be a difference maker for the Italian national team in Brazil. Many rumours will circulate during the summer mercato regarding his future, whether he remains with Milan or not. If Milan does not qualify for the Europa League, his departure may be inevitable to help with the team’s debt situation as holding company Fininvest does not seem to have any intention of helping with the team’s liquidity (for acquisition purposes).
Balotelli not featured in Milan’s new jersey unveiling
In 2012, Thiago Silva and Ibrahimovic were used in Milan’s marketing efforts regarding their new jersey unveiling, yet they were eventually sold to PSG. This time, Milan preferred to not use Balotelli and have other players instead. This decision raised eyebrows, especially considering how Balotelli was prominently featured last year with the new tagline #weareacmilan. Super Mario was chosen as the face of the club for promotional purposes. There is nothing to suggest that there is any correlation between the two, but a doubt remains when other players were selected instead of Balotelli.
The World Cup in Brazil is an ideal platform for Balotelli to show his qualities and raise his game to another level. He has matured and his behaviour has demonstrated this, but on a technical level it has been stagnant and even with Seedorf’s help, the role of lone striker is clearly not his preference. Not able to play how he wants, he plays poorly. He makes efforts like the in derby, where you see him play like a defender – strange but hopefully one day he finds the path that will make him a top player.
If Milan will sell Balotelli, they would do so if they receive an offer in the 30 million euros range. The reason is fairly simple. Milan is paying Manchester City in installments for his acquisition, which was 24 million euros. Two installments have been paid, three remain. The sale would pay for the remainder and a small profit will ensue. Monaco seems the most interested club at the moment to acquire Balotelli, and have the financial means to do so. Recently, Radamel Falcao, has suggested to Balotelli to seriously consider his project at Monaco. If an offer of that magnitude would arrive, Galliani would seriously consider it. Two games to go in the season, and the hot summer of Balotelli will commence.
