Milan, Gattuso concedes defeat to Arsenal “they deserved it”

Gennaro Gattuso’s men were defeated 2-0 in the first leg of the Europa League quarterfinal at the hands of English outfit Arsenal. Gattuso spoke to Mediaset Premium following the match.

Gattuso on his teams performance:

“We knew this was going to be a difficult match, we made too many mistakes, we were not united as a team and Arsenal deserved the victory.”

“We could have done more but we didn’t play as a team, so every time they came on the attack there was danger. Playing at this level is new to some of these guys, so we look forward without losing confidence, it was an off day and Arsenal deserved it. We will learn from this.”

Gattuso on how his team moves forward from this:

“Our minds now go to Genoa, then we will prepare for the second leg in London. You can never say never in football, so we will have to go there and give it our best. We are certainly not going to the Emirates for a picnic. We are Milan and we have to respect the jersey. We could have scored tonight, it’s not over yet, we will give it our best shot.

Gattuso on his counterpart Arsene Wenger:

“I expected Wenger to approach the game this way and it was our mistake giving Arsenal too much space. We allowed them to burst through our lines too easily. This result owes a lot to Arsenal and a lot to our own errors.”

Milan are back in action Sunday as they take head to the Marassi to take on Genoa in Serie A action.
