Milan head coach Gennaro Gattuso spoke to the press ahead of Ludogorets’ visit to the San Siro.
After a convincing performance in Bulgaria last week Milan are in pole position to qualify for the Europa League Round of 16. The Rossoneri defeated Ludogorets 3-0 thanks to goals from Cutrone, Rodriguez and Borini but Gattuso has warned his players to not underestimate Ludogorets in his press conference earlier today.
“Our biggest concern is underestimating the game, we mustn’t play with fire. They’re quick and they can cause us problems. Some of the guys are tired, so I’ll make choices accordingly. Cutrone, on the other hand, has been going at a million miles an hour. He’s 20 years old and recovers well.”
It was rumoured that players from Milan’s Primavera will be called up for the game but Gattuso squashed these rumours immediately.
“I want to see what we do in the week and what we believe in. Primavera players? They won’t play. We respect our opponents and we’ll play with those who have quality and experience. We’re still competing on three fronts, so we can’t go wrong now. We’ve already dropped so many points under my watch and also before that.”
Milan owner Yonghong Li has been the subject of discussion since the Chinese Businessman purchased the club from Silvio Berlusconi in April 2017, the nature of his finances and his personal wealth have come under scrutiny and Gattuso was asked about this in his press conference.
“Worried about finances? No because everything’s working properly and I’ve seen it first hand. Our salaries arrive in advance, Fassone and Mirabelli tell me the money’s there, so in terms of organisation, we have a perfect machine. If everything’s going well and nothing’s missing, why worry?
“For a player, there are two parameters and they are salaries and disorganisation, instead, there’s been talk of silverware, plus Bonucci and the others have met the board members and Han Li. The other things are problems that don’t exist. We’ve seen it first hand that everything works.”
Gattuso then spoke about André Silva who has struggled in Serie A as he is yet to score in Italy but has contributed to Milan in Europe this season.
“We paid Porto two months in advance for Andre Silva, and even they were surprised. He takes time out to practice his shooting and other movements every week. We saw how good he is against Samp, but strikers live for goals and he must break his duck. He’s doing everything else and we’re happy with him. He doesn’t talk much and taunts himself, but I think I can get inside his head. It’ll be his turn tomorrow.
Gattuso has been impressive since replacing Vincenzo Montella as Milan manager this season, despite a slow start the club legend has put Milan back on track as the Rossoneri are unbeaten in 10 games in all competition and rumours have speculated that Gattuso will remain as Milan Manager beyond this season.
“The board put me here and I thank them for that, but I’ll never let myself go to them to talk about my contract. I’m paid the least, but I have an agreement for next season too. I don’t have an agent, but that’s not my priority. Many wanted me in Serie B, but I was stressed out at the time. Still, it means that my work was appreciated.”
