The Rossoneri’s defensive scheme has not gone according to plan this year.
A major shakeup is coming with Milan struggling in the bottom half of the table. With Gustavo Gomez already a step away from signing with Boca Juniors in Argentina, there are three other players who may follow him out the exit door at Casa Milan.
Gabriel Paletta, who hasn’t lived up to expectations since his arrival in 2015, is poised to sign with Sassuolo or Bologna in the coming weeks. Milan purchased Paletta during Parma’s firesale for a bargain (at the time) of €2.5 million.
Next on the chopping block is Christian Zapata, who has suitors both in Italy and in Spain. The Colombian has always been a peripheral player who’s not held a consistent starting role for over two seasons.
Last is Mateo Musacchio, the Argentine who arrived from Villarreal in the summer. Musacchio had suffered a major leg injury in 2014/15 and in the following years succumbed to a slew of different injuries that kept him out of at least half the campaigns. According to Genovese newspaper Il Secolo XIX, Genoa could inquire to sign him on a loan deal until the end of the season.
