Vincenzo Montella spoke to the media this afternoon ahead of tomorrow’s clash against Napoli.
Milan were victorious on their opening game of the season, winning 3-2 against Torino, with Gigio Donnarumma saving a 96th minute penalty to deny former manager Sinisa Mihajlovic a point on his return to the San Siro. They now face last season’s runners-up, Napoli tomorrow evening at the Stadio San Paolo.
On 24 August 2016, a 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck central Italy, 76 kilometres (47 miles) southeast from the city of Perugia. The quake hit at 03:36 (01:36 GMT), at the very shallow depth of 10km (six miles).
According to the Italian Red Cross, the number of people killed rose to 267 including (190 deaths in Rieti province and 57 deaths in Ascoli Piceno province1).
At least 2,000 people have been left homeless. The number of people missing remains unconfirmed.
The Civil Protection department in Rome indicated nearly 400 people were being treated for injuries in hospitals and local media reported some 40 of them were in critical condition.
“We are very close to those affected by this terrible earthquake. We want to thank everyone who is there to help: the police, the fire department, the Red Cross and all the volunteers. We are all very sensible to these events”.
Players available for the trip to Napoli and the transfer market
“Poli suffers from a light injury, we didn’t want to risk him. After the break for International matches he will be back in the fold. Bertolacci? He could recover earlier than we expected, I hope so. I do not know when Zapata will regain full training”.
“I am really glad Romagnoli is staying with us. The Club has done a great effort, and considers the player not for sale. I totally agree with that. During this phase of the season it would have been hard to find a replacement. I hope he doesn’t get distracted by these rumours. Pasalic? He is undergoing medical check-up. He’s a quality player, with a very offensive mentality. For many years he has been considered a future talent. Until today he has always played as central midfielder in a midfield at two. Let’s see in which position he can play with us”.
The opening game against Torino
“We had a great approach to the match. The team played well, but we must not think that everything is resolved. The last 20 minutes of the game we dropped mentally, not physically. We must work on this. Tomorrow is important, we will face a great team that came second in the league last season, and I want the boys to play with personality”.
“Every manager improves with experience that gives you more knowledge. Having that said, I think every manager’s duty is to adapt to his players characteristics so that the team can play at its best”.
“It’s always a great emotion to go back to Naples. It’s very stimulating. As a team we have to play with our idea of football. Napoli has some players that can be very dangerous. We have to keep in mind that the match is made of different phases and we must interpret them at our best. Tomorrow’s match is essential to understand what we can achieve this year. I am more interested in the team’s performance rather than the result”.
“We must not fear Napoli because it’s a very important match for us: we will have to be brave and self-confident”.
“He is a quality player very strong and rapid. European football is more tactical, he needs time to adapt”.
“Last year Milan played some fine matches followed by others where they lacked in concentration. I want to work on this, focusing all our attention on tomorrow’s match. Torino is in the past”.
“It’s still early to say at what stage we are. We’ll have to wait a few matches for that. We must keep focused and improve both technically and mentally. Our goal is to qualify for the European Cups”.
