Moratti Agrees Thohir Deal

There are reports coming from Italy this evening, suggesting that Inter patron Massimo Moratti has agreed to sell 70% of the club to Indonesian businessman Erick Thohir.

Thohir – Inter Milan’s new owner???

The two men have been at loggerheads regarding a deal for several months now, and it seems that they have reached a compromise at a meeting in Paris. It is claimed that the paperwork could be signed as early as next week, but acording to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the announcement will not be made for at least another three weeks.

Moratti refused to reveal that a deal had been agreed, but he did confrim that he will not be leaving Inter completely, and that his family will still be involved with the club. “My family will stay with Inter. Let’s just say this is more an issue of restructuring the club to deal with the expenditures modern football demands. Just look at the fact there are transfers worth €100m going through to understand what we need to keep Inter at that level.” It is obvious that Moratti does not want to leave the club he has owned for eighteen years in its entirety, but he does feel the need to bring in foreign investors, in what is such a tough economic climate.

The man that wants to takeover Inter is Erick Thohir, a 43 year old Indonesian, born in Jakarta. He currently owns MLS franchise D.C. United, and has been in talks with Massimo Moratti for over four months now, and finally, a deal might not be too far away. Watch this space…
