Nainggolan leading the way for Roma
- Updated: March 2, 2017
It was a great weekend for Roma fans as their dream of winning the title this season is still alive and kicking. They won thanks to two goals by in-form Belgian Nainggolan and are now only seven points behind the leaders Juventus. They are also five points in front of Napoli who are their closest rivals in third place who lost on Saturday against Atlanta.
It is going to be difficult for Roma to close the gap on Juve as they also enjoyed winning at the weekend. They beat Empoli to put pressure on the chasing pack and keep up their title chase. They are the second favorites to win Serie A with 12bet and it is hard to see them slipping up. It only takes a couple of losses and if Roma can hold their nerve they will be in with a great chance of securing Champions League play at the end of the season.
Roma dominated Inter for most of the match and was fully deserving of the three points. They may have been the away team but they played more like they were at home. Nainggolan was the best player on the field and it was largely down to his excellent display why Roma was on top for most of the game. The midfielder put the ball in the back of the net inside 12 minutes and it was an excellently taken chance.
It was the first time in eight matches in the league at home that Inter had lost. They did not start well and were not aggressive or energetic enough which gave the Roma team too much time on the ball to pick them apart. It took the Inter players far too long to get started and by the time they did the match was almost over.
As well as scoring the first Nainggolan scored a sublime second goal shortly after the half time. It was a fantastic man of the match performance and on this kind of form, Roma may well catch Juventus by the end of the season.
Inter did put up a small fight towards the end of the game and managed to get a goal back thanks to a Mauro Icardi goal in the 81st minute. The fight back did not last long though and within four minutes of scoring, they conceded a penalty which Diego Perotti converted to kill of the match.
The loss has greatly damaged Inter’s Champion League qualification hopes this season. They are now in sixth place and are six points off qualifying. If they do not reach it this campaign it will be a disaster and will damage their ability to attract the world’s top football stars.
With the form of Salah, Dzeko and Nainggolan Roma are in the hunt for the title. They will need to go unbeaten until the end but they are capable of doing it. The title though is Juventus to lose and they do not look like they are about to have a run of bad form but strangers things have happened and Roma are in with a chance.
