Napoli closed the gap at the top of Serie A to two points thanks to a Raul Albiol header.
Here are the Partenopei player ratings.
Pepe Reina (7): Saved all three Genoa shots on target and commanded his penalty area all evening.
Mario Rui (7): Was good on the right side of the Azzurri defence and attacked well.
Kalidou Koulibaly (6.5): Defended well for the Partenopei but lapsed in concentration on a few occasions.
Raul Albiol (8): Cut out a number of Rossoblu attacks, in particular a dangerous one from Adel Taarabt. Most importantly though the Spanish International rose like a salmon for Napoli’s winner and beat his marker with a fantastic header.
Elseid Hysaj (8): Bombed forward at every opportunity and made sure that Goran Pandev and Diego Laxalt couldn’t have any influence in the game whatsoever. A man of the match performance from the Albanian International.
Marek Hamšík (6): Was subbed off after 20 minutes due to an injury which was a shame as the Napoli Captain started the game brightly.
Jorginho (7): Always accurate with his passing Jorginho was instrumental for the Partenopei this evening, however the Italian International should look to make a riskier pass every once in a while to provide Napoli with more attacking opportunities.
Allan (7): Went about his business quietly as he always does. The Brazilian was a key reason as to why Napoli recorded a possession stat of 67% and this is because of Allan’s tireless work rate as he stopped Andrea Bertolacci from having any influence in the Grifone midfield.
Lorenzo Insigne (7.5): Insigne rarely has a bad game and the Italian International was his usual self tonight. Insigne’s pace and dribbling had the Genoa defence on strings as he orchestrated a number of attacking plays for the Partenopei.
Dries Mertens (7): The Belgian International’s trickery and speed made him a nuisance tonight but he will be disappointed that he couldn’t get his name on the scoresheet.
José Callejón (7.5): Always makes threatening runs and despite not being able to get on the end of many crosses or through balls the Spanish International whipped in a lovely corner that resulted in Albiols’ winning header.
Piotr Zieliński (7): Replacing Hamšík after 20 minutes was never going to be easy but the 23 year-old helped the Azzurri when pushing forward and his performance shouldn’t go unnoticed.
Arkadiusz Milik (6): Replaced Mertens with 10 minutes to go and squared a lovely ball to Insigne but unfortunately the Italian couldn’t convert his chance.
Marko Rog (6): Came on for Callejón for the last five minutes to solidify the Napoli midfield and ensure that all three points went to the Partenopei. Encouraging signs for the 22 year-old.
