After a poor first half, a resurgent Napoli side secured all 3 points at home after dominating the Biancocelesti in the second 45 minutes of play.
Here are the player rating for the Partenopei after their 4-1 thrashing of Lazio.
Pepe Reina (6.5): The veteran could’ve been rated higher if not for being one of the main culprits in Lazio’s first goal. Simply coming out and punching the ball away could’ve prevented Stefan de Vrij from giving the visitors an early lead.
Mario Rui (8): With Faouzi Ghoulam out for the season, Rui has had to step up for Napoli, and he did just that tonight. The Portuguese left back was exceptional in defense and going forward, and it was his shot that came off of Zielinski’s leg and into the back of the net for Napoli’s third goal of the match.
Lorenzo Tonelli (7): Injuries to Raul Albiol and Vlad Chiriches saw Tonelli make his first appearance for Napoli since January of last year. It was an average showing for the Italian who, after conceding early on, did well to defend the attacking Ciro Immobile and moved the ball nicely.
Kalidou Koulibaly (7): Similar to Tonelli, K2 put in an average performance today. He fell asleep at the back at times failing to track runners into the box, but his build up play out of the back and his ability to go forward were his saving graces.
Elseid Hysaj (8): Today was a great day at the office for the Albanian right-back. Hysaj did well to bounce back after a shaky start in which he was often times caught pushing up to high. In the second half, he shined as he excelled going forward and was strong defensively.
Allan (7): To say that Allan got a couple bruises this game is an understatement. Napoli’s resident powerhouse did well to win the ball back during the game, but sloppy play and an inability to link up with his teammates at times merits the 7 rating.
Jorginho (8): Jorginho continued to strengthen the argument that he might be the best regista in the league today with a great performance. A sensational ball over the top for Callejon helped his team to equalized just before halftime after being 0-1 down for the first 43 minutes of the game.
Marek Hamsik (6.5): The only reason ‘Il Capitano’ doesn’t have a higher rating is because he had to come off at halftime. A rumored back injury forced him to be subbed off for Zielinski, but before hitting the showers early Hamsik did well to move the ball in the midfield and control play.
Lorenzo Insigne (7): Today was lackluster for Insigne. After failing to find the back of the net on multiple occasions in the first half, Lorenzo was visibly frustrated. In the second half, he improved by getting involved in build up play and by becoming more dangerous when he went forward.
Dries Mertens (8): After a poor first half that saw Mertens struggle to link up with Insigne and Callejon, Dries reminded us of his class. He was involved in almost every attack launched by hosts and he got his goal after some beautiful ‘Sarrismo’ between him and Zielinski.
Jose Callejon (8): The Spaniard was directly responsible for two of Napoli’s goals today. The first came when he slotted home Jorginho’s pass over the top and the second 10 minutes into the second half when his cross into the box was put into the net by Lazio’s Wallace.
Piotr Zielinski (MOTM): Simply put, Zielinski changed this game. His work throughout the second half on and off the ball makes it an easy decision to give the Poland international the Man of the Match rating.
Marko Rog (7): Coming on for Allan, Rog was his usual self and got stuck in during his time on the pitch. In his time, he helped control possession and prevent any Lazio attacks from starting.
Christian Maggio (N/A): Maggio didn’t have enough time to make an impact large enough to earn himself a rating.
Maurizio Sarri (8): Whatever Sarri said to his team at halftime worked. Napoli were a different side in the second half and, despite getting ejected for arguing with the refs, it was a great job done by Sarri.
