Napoli defeated Palermo 3-0 away at Stadio Renzo Barbera on Saturday night in a convincing performance. After the match, captain Marek Hamsik, who surpassed Diego Maradona in goals for Napoli.
Hamsik spoke to Premium Sport about the team’s performance and the result:
“We are a goal machine, we are happy to score and even more happy to not have conceded any. We had already dominated in the first half, but we were not able to break the deadlock. Then in the second half, we did. We always reasoned as a team. In recent years we have been a team made to score a lot of goals, but it’s even more important to not concede goals.”
When asked if Palermo is a preferred target, Hamsik simply said, “I’m happy to have helped the team, for the three points and the victory.”
Hamsik spoke about the upcoming match in the Champions League against Dynamo Kiev when asked: “The Champions League gives great incentives, we are ready.”
Napoli’s captain also spoke about surpassing club legend, Diego Maradona’s goal record of 81 goals for the partenopei:
“It is a beautiful, personal satisfaction to overtake him; I’ll try to score as much as possible. I never imagined of surpassing Diego in amount of goals, also because I am a midfielder.”
The Azzurri and their captain will take the victory and look forward to Tuesday when they face Dyanmo Kiev in their opening group stage match in the Champions League.
