Sacking your manager within a month of the season starting does sound very rash, but for Napoli manager Rafael Benitez this is very much a possibility.
Benitez’s side lie tenth in the Serie A table and with one win in their opening four matches, there are whispers that the Spaniard could be out of a job very soon.
Mediaset reported that president Aurelio De Laurentiis is looking at candidates to replace the former Liverpool manager. Former Roma coach Luciano Spalletti is on the managerial shortlist along with three-time Serie A winner Roberto Mancini, and a new name that has emerged is Francesco Guidolin, who has coached at no less than 13 clubs in Italy.
Obviously it is still very early in the season, but Napoli are three matches without a victory and a defeat at Sassuolo on Sunday could spell the end of Benitez’s reign in Naples.
