Napoli ran out 2-1 winners in a match that was decisive in retaining second place. Here is how we rated each individual performer on Napoli from today’s match:
Jose Reina (6): Did not have much to do in this match however commanded the box well and distributed the ball with his feet excellently.
Elseid Hysaj (7): Was an attacking threat all day long down the right flank. Created lots of problems for Drame of Atalanta. An overall great performance from the Albanian.
Raul Albiol (6.5): Commanded the back line well tonight. Instead of Koulibaly being the protagonist of the back four, Albiol took charge and was key on a handful of occasions in stopping Atalanta from finding a way to goal.
Kalidou Koulibaly (5.5): Certainly was not Kalidou’s best night in a Napoli shirt. Lacked his typical “No one shall pass” style and seemed a bit lost at times. Was lucky that Albiol had his back on a number of occasions.
Faouzi Ghoulam (5.5): Every decent attack from Atalanta came from their right side, meaning Kalidou Koulibaly and Faouzi Ghoulam were leaving way too much space for Atalanta to counter quickly. An overall poor performance from a usually solid performer.
Allan (7.5): Made many key interceptions in the midfield and could have easily bagged a goal himself. A great performance from the box-to-box midfielder Napoli have so desperately needed in the past few years.
Jorginho (7.5): Another excellent showing in the heart of Napoli’s midfield. Jorginho consistently changes the point of attack and that is why they win many of their games. Forza Jorginho!
Marek Hamsik (5): Sadly Marek Hamsik was Napoli’s poorest performer on the night. The Napoli legend could not find a good rhythm tonight with him having a number of misplaced passes.
Jose Callejon (7): Apart from Kalidou Koulibaly and Jorginho, Jose Callejon is arguably Napoli’s most consistent performer, with the Spaniard bagging a key assist to Gonzalo Higuain for Napoli’s second goal of the match. His energy inspired his teammates in many instances during today’s match.
Gonzalo Higuain (9 MOTM): Pipita has scored after his 3-match ban and the Argentinian hit-man did not just score one, he scored two. Always dangerous in Napoli’s attacks and leads the line so well. Such a massive part of Sarri’s team time and time again. What a player!
Lorenzo Insigne (5): Along with Marek Hamsik, the little magician was Napoli’s worst performer. The little Neapolitan looked lost on many occasions and his first touch was way off today. He needs to find his feet quickly to push Napoli onto retaining 2nd place.
Dries Mertens (7.5): Was the complete contrast of what Lorenzo Insigne was in this match. He created havoc as soon as he came on and came close to scoring a goal. Completely shifted the course of the match in Napoli’s favor as soon as he was brought on.
Omar El Kaddouri (7): Like Mertens, El Kaddouri brought a lot to the game as he almost bagged a goal and an assist as he came on. In the little time he played, he made a huge impact and is making Maurizio Sarri think about giving him more playing time for sure.
Manolo Gabbiadini (N/A): Gabbiadini did not play long enough to gain a rating from today’s match.
