Maurizio Sarri’s side came away with a 1-0 victory today despite Maurizio Sarri actually being suspended for the match and replaced by Napoli assistant manager, Francesco Calzona.
Napoli will await the winner of Milan-Juve to see who they will take on in the semi-final. Here is how we rated each Napoli player’s performance from the match:
Pepe Reina (7): Pepe had been called upon very little, but a few dangerous opportunities came Fiorentina’s way and he was always on the money to stop them. A very, very solid performance from Napoli’s main-man in net.
Elseid Hysaj (8): Hysaj was so solid down his flank tonight. Despite his great performance being marred by a late red card, he nonetheless had an extraordinary performance. Even when he had to change to left back, he was still on the money.
Raul Albiol (6.5): It wasn’t an astonishing performance from one of Napoli’s most consistent performers, but it certainly wasn’t bad at all. The Spaniard actually controlled the defense very well and maintained possession of the ball wisely.
Nikola Maksimovic (6.5): Likewise to Albiol, Maksimovic’s performance was almost a carbon copy of Raul’s. He seems to have regained his form from Torino.
Ivan Strinic (7): It was a shame he had to be brought off after sustaining an injury because he was having arguably his best game yet in a Napoli jersey. He joined the attack supremely well and defended ferociously. Hopefully his injury layoff isn’t too lengthy.
Piotr Zielinski (7): Zielinski’s great run of form continued into tonight’s match where the Polish international was a key component to Napoli’s win. His marauding runs with the ball through the midfield give the attack a chance to create space to move in to.
Amadou Diawara (7.5): Just like Zielinski, Diawara was the anchor in the midfield that was needed to control Fiorentina’s midfield of Badelj and Vecino, two very classy players. Napoli are lucky to have a player of Diawara’s comfort.
Marek Hamsik (7.5): The captain had a brilliant match today. The triangle formed of Strinic-Hamsik-Insigne completely burned Fiorentina down their right flank. Hamsik was the main orchestrator for Napoli moving forward, he also had a few impressive defensive moments as well.
Jose Callejon (7.5): Here is Napoli’s most consistent performer, Jose Callejon just can’t seem to be substituted at the moment. His performances have been too great and his stamina has been too consistent to sit him on the bench. He ran all night long and was rewarded with a goal that ultimately won the match.
Leonardo Pavoletti (5): It was not a great night for Napoli’s new signing, Pavoletti. He was almost always in the right position but it seemed as though he was nervous. He ballooned a shot over the bar from close range that should have easily been a goal.
Lorenzo Insigne (9 MOTM): Easily the man of the match, Lorenzo Insigne has to be making Napoli president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, think about giving him a big pay-raise. He capped off his night with an exquisite turn that left Carlos Sanchez of Fiorentina in the dust.
Christian Maggio (6): Maggio had to come in for an injured Ivan Strinic, but Napoli’s back-line didn’t skip a beat. He was on the money for every tackle he had to make.
Dries Mertens (6): Dries entered for Pavoletti and Napoli’s attack seemed to have more space to run into. Mertens’ scintillating form continues for the Partenopei.
Allan (N/A): Allan didn’t feature long enough to be scrutinized on his performance.
