The Partenopei have had a bit of difficulty with depth at the wing-back position. It comes to no surprise that the Azzurri are already thinking about possible acquisitions in those positions.
According to Ciro Venerato of Rai Sport, Napoli have already blocked Spanish Left-Back, Alejandro Grimaldo, for the summer transfer window.
With the injury to Faouzi Ghoulam, there is a bit of uncertainty as to whether the Algerian can come back from his injury in the same form as he was in September. Before suffering an ACL tear against Manchester City, Ghoulam was arguably one of the best Left-Back’s on the Planet. Therefore, Napoli will want to make sure they have enough depth to finish out the season.
However, it is very unlikely that any big-name full-backs transfer to Napoli this winter, as both Matteo Darmian and Sime Vrsaljko look set on remaining where they are. Thus, making it all more important to plan ahead and ‘block’ a promising Left-Back such as the former Barcelona man, Grimaldo.
Venerato further stated that it will be easier to negotiate a fee with Benfica now since the Partenopei have already secured the player’s will to join.
There are many names on Napoli’s transfer wish-list and it looks like they can mark Grimaldo off as a done-deal, for the Summer of course.
