Napoli beat Pescara 3-1 at the Stadio San Paolo Sunday afternoon after an improved second half performance.
Defender Lorenzo Tonelli found the back of the net once again for the partenopei. Tonelli spoke to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli after the match.
The Italian defender said he knows teams give it their all when they visit the San Paolo.
“We know that when teams come here they give 100 percent,” Tonelli said. “Especially in the first half when they have more energy. We did well to not lose our balance. Then, in the second half our style of play came out; maybe because they let loose a little.”
Tonelli now has two goals in two matches for Napoli. KK asked Tonelli if his will to score showed again, but the defender said he was more unhappy with conceding a goal.
“The goal is definitely a reason for joy,” Tonelli said. “But, my job is to not concede goals and we conceded again today. This leaves a bad taste in my mouth.”
KK asked Tonelli if his goal against Sampdoria last week was strange for a defender. Tonelli said he just followed his instincts.
“Yes, it was strange,” Tonelli said. “I saw there were a few minutes left. Instinctively, I told myself to follow the action and try going into the opponents’ box. I felt inside me that the decisive ball had come to me.”
KK asked if there is a balance in the league. Napoli’s defender said he thinks the Serie A is competitive and that Napoli still hasn’t played to its full potential.
“This is a competitive league,” Tonelli said. “We are there with the other teams. I think, however, that we still haven’t expressed 100 percent of our game. We have ample room for improvement.”
Napoli still sits in third place in the Serie A table. The partenopei will play AC Milan away from home on Saturday, Jan. 21.
