Napoli’s training session on Monday was solely focused on Thursday’s Round of 32 Europa League match against German side Leipzig.
After impressively defeating Lazio 4-1 on Saturday evening, Napoli remain top of Serie A and the Azzurri are now looking to turn their attention to the Europa League on Thursday evening when they host Leipzig who are currently second in the Bundesliga.
Thursday’s match will be the most highly anticipated match of the Europa League Round of 32 as both teams play attacking football and are two of the best sides in Italy and Germany respectively.
Ahead of the big game on Thursday, the Partenopei’s afternoon training session on Monday was interesting as the Neapolitans were split into two groups by manager Maurizio Sarri.
The first group contained the players who appeared against Lazio and these players, who include the likes of Lorenzo Insigne, Dries Martens and Kalidou Koulibally, worked on muscle activation exercises and undertook aerobic training as a part of recovery training after playing on Saturday. The second group contained the players who didn’t take part in last weekend’s win, including the likes of Adam Ounas, Amadou Diawara and Raúl Albiol; these individuals took part in circuit training exercises and to finish off the session they played a match on a smaller pitch.
It was reported by Tuttomercato that club captain Marek Hamšík took part in the first half of the session as he played on Saturday, and then the Slovakian international joined the second group in their second half of the session.
In addition to this, veteran central defender Albiol, who didn’t play in the Lazio game, took part in both sessions like Hamšík did. However, when Hamšík joined the second group of players, he swapped with Albiol and the Spanish international subsequently joined the first unit for the remainder of the team’s session.
