Newly-minted Asian Champions League winner Marcello Lippi spoke to Radio Anchi’io lo Sport today, about his exploits in China and about Serie A.
“Winning a Champions League is always a wonderful experience, be it in China or in Italy with Juventus. The only victory that has no comparison is the World Cup”.
The former Juventus, Inter and Italian National Team coach then focused on Guangzhou Evergrande: “The results confirm that we’re Asia’s strongest team, composed of a significant number of foreigners but with 7-8 domestic (Chinese) players who form the team’s backbone”.
“We will now concentrate on the FIFA Club World Cup competition in Morocco, but it won’t be easy to face a superpower like Bayern Munich. We will try our best, it’s my duty. I haven’t come to China just for money: they understand and appreciate that here”.
Lippi commented on Serie A remarking that Roma is doing very well, and that he’s impressed with De Rossi’s form and Garcia’s work. “However, no team is like Juventus. The bianconeri are a powerhouse, they have great charisma”, Lippi said about his former team.
When asked about which team was an unpleasant surprise, he said “AC Milan. I didn’t expect to see them in their current ranking position, but I would wait before saying that they are at the end of a dynasty, and to get rid of their current brass”.
