The Manchester City defender is among the top names being chased by Inter as they aim to bolster their defence ahead of a return to Europe next season.
The Argentinian is in the final year of his contract with the former EPL champions, and despite Pep Guardiola taking the reigns in the summer, there is some uncertainty surrounding Zabaleta and whether he will have regular first team football.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, current Inter manger Roberto Mancini has a great rapport with his former charge, given they won a league title during Mancini’s time at Manchester City, and furthermore would provide competition to Danilo D’Ambrosio for the right back position.
The Nerazzurri are at risk of possibly losing both of their central defenders in the summer as Miranda is target for Manchester United and Murillo is beginning to attract some strong interest from current EPL champions Leicester City and Zenit Saint Petersburg.
The Colombian was purchased outright for €8 million from Granada last year, and Inter have slapped a price tag of €20m after a highly successful first season.
Inter has been linked to other reinforcements, with both PSV’s Jeffrey Bruma and Fenerbahce’s Caner Erkin linked to the Nerazzurri.
The Dutchman is set to leave the Eredivisie champions and they will be looking for at least €10m. Conversely, Inter have been extremely interested in Bruma for quite some time, as Director Piero Ausilio has been to Eindhoven to observe the centre-back perform on multiple occasions.
Like Zabaleta – Erkin is in his final year at Fenerbahce and is adamant that he will be renewing his deal and he eyes a move to Italy. The Turkish International is close to agreeing a three year contract worth €2 million per year for the Nerazzurri.
