After Behrami, Pandev and Dzemaili; former Napoli defender and captain Paolo Cannavaro intimated his feelings on Benitez to Napoli’s Il Mattino: “I dreamed of ending my career at Napoli but it won’t be possible. It will be really hard in five months time when I will return to the San Paolo as an adversary. Perhaps I will ask my brother Fabio to come support me”.
Cannavaro’s dream of ending his career in Naples has been broken by Benitez’s choices: “Sooner or later stories like these end, but you’re left wondering why. I believe that I deserved another chance with the new coach”.
The Neapolitan currently at Sassuolo is critical of the team’s personnel strategy: “The team was turned upside down at a point in which all was needed was a touch up. However, I will always be grateful to president De Laurentiis”.
“There is only one way out of these ruts in Naples: winning. Nobody needs chatter”, concludes the 33 year old.
Before moving to Sassuolo, Paolo Cannavaro amassed 276 appearances and 9 goals with Napoli.
