The ex-Rossonero center-back opens up about refusing a job with one of the Russian Premier League’s top clubs a few years ago.
Taking part in an event in Kazahkstan, Milan legend Paolo Maldini reveal to Championat.com in a recent interview that he had the opportunity to join Luciano Spalletti at Zenit a few years back but turned down the offer:
I could have gone to Zenit. Luciano Spalletti called me, asking me to collaborating with him as a part of the technical staff. I did not want to take up this role and turned it down. I did not want to work at the club because, beyond the question of geography, Russia is not close to Italy.
He was then asked him Massimo Carrera had spoken to him about a role at Spartak Moscow:
He does not need me (laughs)! He is doing well and it does not surprise me because he learned a lot working with Antonio Conte. Anyone who works with the former Juventus manager does well.
