Over the last few days, Parma have intensified their pursuit for Catania’s Francesco Lodi. The Sicilian club are reluctant to let the player go but have recently changed their stance on the midfielder.
With Parolo’s departure to Lazio, Parma are in dire need of a midfielder who can dictate play. Parma believe Catania’s Lodi to be just that man and have began negotiations for the midfielder. Over recent seasons, Lodi has emerged as one of the best free kick takers in the league and was even being compared to Andrea Pirlo. However, while his free kick taking ability cannot be doubted, his form over the past few seasons has dropped off and he is no longer that same player that he was when he first began playing for Catania. Parolo was a key player for Donadoni’s Parma last season it remains to be seen whether Lodi could replicate Parolo’s offensive contribution.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Parma have offered Catania €5 million in cash without any players on co-ownership or loan. Catania are open to the idea of selling the regista and a deal could be struck within the next few days. A potential departure for Parma is Italian defender Gabriel Paletta. Parma have no intention of selling the defender but if an offer arrives from a bigger club, they will have to sell.
Francesco Lodi spent last season between clubs. He made 9 appearances for Genoa scoring 2 goals and getting 1 assist. Upon his return to Catania, Lodi scored 2 goals and got 3 assists and made 19 appearances.
