Genoa Captain and Italy Goalkeeper Mattia Perin was distraught over the death of Fiorentina Captain Davide Astori.
Italian Football is in mourning after Astori passed away in his sleep last night. Due to Astori’s sudden passing, all Serie A and Serie B games were postponed today.
Unfortunately for the players and staff of Genoa and Cagliari the news was reported to them whilst both teams were warming up at the Marassi. Upon hearing the sad news Perin immediately sprinted off of the pitch in tears.
Perin later paid tribute to Astori via his Instagram.
“I can’t believe it’s real. I cannot get my head round this. It’s one of those blows that breaks your legs and splits your heart, we spent so many fantastic moments together. On the field you were a humble and fair opponent, above all strong and always the last to give up, the first to give a word of comfort.
“Other moments, more than fantastic, we spent at Coverciano, above all during the lunches and dinners at that corner of the table, where we had a ton of laughs! That is how I will always remember you, with a smile on your face! Ciao Davidone”.
