On August 15, 2012 Italy took on England in a friendly at the Stade de Suisse in Switzerland. Coming off the back of Italy’s 2nd place finish, but a crushing 4-0 loss to Spain and with the backbone of the Azzurri regulars away on Supercoppa duty, a new pool of players had to be selected.
The game ended 2-1 in favor of the English, but that wasn’t a major concern for Prandelli. He was laying the foundation for the next generation of Azzurri players.
At the final whistle, Prandelli had given debuts to eight Italians, many of which are still pieces of now head coach Antonio Conte’s plans.
