Coming off a disappointing 4-1 loss to Immobile’s Lazio at the weekend, Vincenzo Montella’s men travel to Austria to take on Austria Wien in the first match of the Europa League group stage.
Milan have just announced their squad for the fixture, with a few notable absences due to injury and also mid-week rest.
Goalkeepers: G.Donnarumma, A.Donnarumma, Storari
Defenders: Abate, Antonelli, Bonucci, Calabria, Musacchio, Romagnoli, Zapata
Midfielders: Biglia, Bonaventura, Calhanoglu, Kessie, Locatelli, Montolivo
Forwards: Cutrone, Kalinic, A.Silva, Suso
Montella will be going with the 3-5-2 formation against Austria Wien on Thursday, having only used the formation once this season in the Euro League qualifiers. SKY reports that Zapata will join Romagnoli and Bonucci at the back, with Musacchio having a rest. Ricardo Rodriguez was not called up due to rest, as well as Andrea Conti as he is re-gaining fitness after his small ankle injury. Abate and Antonelli are projected to be on the flanks in the formation, with Kessie, Biglia and either Calhanoglu or Bonaventura in the midfield. Andre Silva and Nikola Kalinic will pair up front in attack.
Probable XI (3-5-2): Donnarumma; Zapata, Bonucci, Romagnoli; Abate, Kessie, Biglia, Calhanoglu, Antonelli; Kalinic, A.Silva.
Player to watch:
The Portuguese Golden Boy has only played 30 minutes in Serie A this season, and will be looking to get back on the score sheet and get back into Montella’s good graces. The ex-Porto man has only seen minutes in the Europa League qualifiers this season, scoring two goals at the San Siro back in August. The 21-year-old has so much potential and has several dimensions to his game, and he will hopefully show that tomorrow evening in Vienna.
