Racing president Victor Blanco confirmed Lautaro Martinez’s move to Inter in the summer, along with the figures and details of the Argentine’s switch.
As revealed by Gianluca Di Marzio, Racing President Victor Blanco explained how the negotiation process for coveted Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez transpired in an interview yesterday with Radio Continental.
“We didn’t want to sell Martinez and we spoke many times with his agent,” explained Blanco. “Luckily, the deal with Atletico Madrid did not materialise as they offered only €12 million – a price that, for us, never represented his true value as a player.”
The 20-year old, who is all but on his way to Italy this summer to join Inter, had plenty of interest across Europe, but it was the Milanese club who tabled the most substantial offer, which Blanco confirmed to be €27 million without taxes plus 10% of proceeds in a future sale.
Martinez’s agent added to Blanco’s statement when he spoke to Tyc Sports:
“Lautaro preferred Inter’s offer to the one Borussia Dortmund submitted. The sides have already signed the documents and the player will complete his transfer to Inter in August.”
In 17 matches across all competitions this season, Martinez has proven to be a lethal force up front with 15 goals and three assists in 1,217 minutes. While the Nerazzurri do have one of the best number nine’s on the books in Mauro Icardi, and could renew his contract with a possible €7 million salary per season, certainly manager Luciano Spalletti would welcome another prolific striker who can compliment his captain with a different profile.
