Pepe Reina had high praise for his newly-acquired Napoli teammate Arkadiusz Milik comparing him to Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.
Ahead of his side’s clash with Benfica, Reina was asked about Milik. The reported told the Spaniard that he had the privilege to play with both Lewandowski and Milik and wanted a comparison between the two. Reina had this to say:
“Lewi has more experience and has won more than Arek, but Arek has a great future ahead of him and I’m certain he will be a fundamental player for us shortly. It’s been a pleasure conceding goals to these great strikers in training.”
When asked about whether he thinks Milik could reach Lewandowski’s level, Reina said:
“It won’t be easy but the potential is there. There are about 6 or 8 years of difference, therefore I think we must be patient. I’m sure he’ll do well at Napoli where he’ll continue to grow as a player and as a person. When he’s fully matured at 25-26, we’ll see what he’ll be capable of. I’m sure he’ll have a fantastic career.”
On his return to Napoli, Reina said:
“It was absolutely fantastic. The people are welcoming just like they are in the south of Spain, where I’m from. There’s a lot of chaos in the street, it’s a particular city. But once you’ve adapted to its rhythm, it’s a city that you can only fall in love with. Life is truly beautiful here. I’d like to also thank the people for the love they have showed me over the last three years. Obviously, there’s margins for improvement but things are going well and I think the base is there to play top football in the following years. Either in Italy or in Europe.”
He was then asked how he values his year under Pep Guardiola at Bayern, where he didn’t play much. The goalkeeper said:
“You can take positives out of any experience. Working with Pep and Neuer was a fantastic experience. I think Neuer is the best goalkeeper in the world at the moment and Pep is the best manager. It was intense. It was like a year of Masters, where I learned a lot.
