Roma and Manchester United are reportedly in the advanced stages of a deal that would bring Dutch international Daley Blind to the Italian capital.
To much of a surprise here in the final days of the January transfer window, Roma and Manchester United are discussing a possible deal that would see Netherlands international Daley Brind swap English football for Italian ‘calcio’ in Rome.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Dutch defender has reportedly given his personal approval on a move to the Giallorossi, with only the the financial terms of his transfer needing to be sorted between the two parties.
Roma and Manchester United are said to be currently working on reaching an agreement, but based on the accelerated pace of this deal, it is certainly not beyond the realm of possibility that we see the 27-year old Ajax product finalise his move soon.
Blind has picked up the bulk of his minutes this season during the Red Devils’ Champions League term, tallying six appearances with one goal and assists respectively.
Perhaps the thought behind this move for manager Eusebio Di Francesco and the Roma front office is that Blind’s positional flexibility to cover in multiple defensive and ‘centrocampo’ roles gives them the luxury of spelling Aleksandar Kolarov an occasional breather at left-back, while also being able to slot in as an insurance defensive midfielder.
Blind could be a welcomed addition to a struggling Roma side who look to get their season back on track in both Serie A and Europe where they are pegged with Shakhtar Donestsk in the Round of 16.
