Roma, Monchi: ‘VAR corrects mistakes’

Roma Director of Sport Monchi believes that Refeere’s would be happy with the introduction of VAR in the Champions League.

The Giallorossi defeated Liverpool 4-2 in the Second-Leg of the Champions League Semi-Final, but went out 7-6 on aggregate.

La Magica were infuriated when Trent Alexander-Arnold blocked a Stephan El Shaarawy shot with his hand, but a penalty and a red card were not awarded by Referee Damir Skomina.

Monchi spoke with RMC Sport about the match but congratulated Liverpool for their achievements.

“First of all congratulations to Liverpool, returning to the referees, I think it’s time for deep reflection and to understand that certain things are not good.

“I’m convinced that the referee would have been happy to have VAR available, because when he sees the replays he certainly won’t be happy to see he should have whistled for two penalties.

“If possible there must be help to allow them to make fewer mistakes and not just for us, there have been oversights in other games.

“The fans should be proud of the team as we are proud of them because it was a wonderful evening”.
