Roma tie Porto 1-1 after going down a player in the 41st minute in the first leg.

Alisson (6) Wasn’t challenged much early on but when he was he looked a little unconvincing, however in the end he held off the swarm of attacks from Porto to only allow one goal from a penalty.

Thomas Vermaelen (4) Unnecessary yellow cards saw him sent off, which resulted in Porto dominating possession and forced Roma to add another defender in Emerson. Fair to say that had Vermaelen not gotten sent off the game could easily have been 2-0 or 3-0 in favor of Roma.

Kostas Manolas (7) – Made up for Vermaelen’s slack and was a rock in the back line making key clearances and did a majority of the defending during Porto’s attack.

Juan Jesus  (6) – Decent night out with good moments and a few mistakes, would expect him to improve once we get deeper into the season and he gets more experience with the squad.

Alessandro Florenzi  (7) – Solid defending, moved the ball forward a few times and perhaps most importantly was responsible for causing the mistake that gave Roma the all important away goal.

Daniele De Rossi (6.5) – A good night for the captain as he was a good facilitator going forward and a strong challenger going back on defense.

Radja Nainggolan (6.5) – Another player that adapted well when having to defend for a good portion of the game. Prior to playing with 10 men Nainggolan was playing between the center backs of Porto and their midfield, which was causing them problems. However with the absence of Pjanic, Nainggolan will need to get more involved in the future.

Kevin Strootman  (5) – Didn’t see much from Strootman and the few times he had possession he seemed to lose it cheaply. However he did chase after balls and get involved on top of challenging players on defense.

Mohamed Salah (5) – Dominated most of the possession first half and did a good job getting forward however he did made bad decisions after getting close to goal, which resulted in a lot of missed opportunities.

Edin Dzeko  (5) – Missed an easy chance early on off a Casillas mistake and was largely absent following it.

Diego Perotti  (5) – Wasn’t a threat on the left hand side, got forward twice and gave away possession easily once and seemed lost the second time. Was the first to be subbed off for Emerson following the Vermaelen red card.

Substitutes:

Emerson (4.5) – Gave away a cheap hand ball that resulted in a penalty, besides that had no significant impact on the game.

Federico Fazio  (5.5) – Came on during the 77th minute and wasn’t challenged much however did look decent the one chance he got.

Leandro Paredes  (6.5) – Came on in the 85th minute for Florenzi and immediately had an impact on the game. It was the first time in the second half Roma got forward and had a dangerous cross. Roma also got their best opportunity of the second half in the form of a free kick that Paredes helped earn.
