The rumours linking Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech with AS Roma look to be coming to fruition with the two clubs entering talks this week.
Chelsea looked to have slammed the door on the 32-year-old leaving Stamford Bridge by allowing veteran goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer to join fellow Premier League side Leicester City. But with Cech having to play second fiddle to hot prospect Thibaut Courtois, it seems the Czech international has had enough.
The move could be seen as strange to some Giallorossi fans with current goalkeeper Morgan de Sanctis being one of their top performers this season. However Cech is 5 years de Sanctis’s junior at and would provide stability over the next few seasons.
It is unknown whether Roma will match Cech’s current £100,000 per week contract, but this seems unlikely.
For Chelsea, they would certainly need to dive into the market if they lose the goalkeeper, but the sale alone should fund a replacement.
