Sporting Lisbon defender Jonathan Silva is ready to finalise his move that will see him swap Portuguese football for calcio in the Italian capital of Rome.
Late last night, reports quickly made their way around the internet that Roma and Manchester United had been working on a deal to bring Daley Blind to the Capitale. However, with recent updates claiming the English club are hesitant to sell in January, the Giallorossi quickly shifted their efforts elsewhere for defensive support here on Deadline Day.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Argentine international Jonathan Silva will complete his move to Roma today, pending medicals, on loan with a €5 million obligation to buy in the summer based on a set total of appearances made for the Italian side. All that separates the 23-year old from swapping the Primeira Liga for Serie A is the official statement.
Silva’s found it difficult to get regular time at Sporting this season, tallying under 400 league minutes. However, with Roma looking to replace Emerson Palmieri who departed for London outfit Chelsea FC, Di Francesco hopes the youngster can relieve veteran Aleksandar Kolarov at left-back when needed to ensure he can stay fit for the stretch run.
