Daniele De Rossi and Francesco Totti face uncertain futures as their current deals expire in six months.
It’s a question that needs to be resolved quickly. At the end of the season if no new deals are reached, De Rossi and Totti would be free agents and released from Roma.
The new year presents new problems, what to do with the club’s most fabled duo.
Daniele De Rossi – With his €6 million net annual salary, the midfielder is the most paid player on the roster. An agreement reached by the old ownership when De Rossi was one of the undisputed best midfielders in Europe. A new deal would have to be on the basis on a substantially lower salary.
Francesco Totti – We all remember last season when his one-year extension was signed on the 11th hour. Once again, it’s a question that’s on everybody’s mind. According to sources in Italy, it’s all in the Capitano’s hands. The fans do not want to see their 40-year old legend retire, but in the spring, Francesco Totti will announce to the club his decision. If he were to announce retirement, there’s already a role available for him in the club’s directorship. Either way, Totti’s future is in Giallorosso for years to come.
