In the last few days Sampdoria have intensified their pursuit for a center back and have since targeted River Plate’s Eder Balanta. They are confident in reaching an agreement for the defender over the next few days.
Shkodran Mustafi’s departure to Valencia leaves Sampdoria a bit light at the back going into the new season. After missing out on their first targets in Mario Yepes and Hugo Armando Campagnaro, I Blucerchiati have shifted their attention to highly rated Colombian center back Eder Balanta. The River Plate defender is one of the brightest prospects in world football and would not prove to be too expensive. Over the last season the center back has put in a string of impressive performances attracting plenty of interest from abroad with Roma and Lazio also interested in bringing the 21 year old to Serie A.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Sampdoria have offered River Plate 6 million euros for Balanta payable over two seasons. The first half will be payed in the first season while the second half of the fee will be payed off in the second season. Since Sampdoria’s interest in the Colombian was reported, it was rumored they would be working in bringing the highly rated prospect alongside another Serie A team. However, at the moment there’s been no such sign of this and Sampdoria seem to be working on their own.
Balanta made 18 appearances for River Plate last season in the Argentine league.
