Juventus opens training camp at Vinovo still searching for the missing pieces to European success
A new season is just around the corner for Max Allegri and the Italian champions Juventus. This time the pressure to win at the European level will be greater than ever. While their appearance in Berlin two seasons ago was a surprise to even the most die-hard Bianconero, there is a growing level of expectation for 2016-17. The football world is well aware of Juve’s domestic dominance, completing the domestic double-double last year, adding to their large trophy haul. The next step management and ownership need to take is in the Champions League and bring the big eared trophy back to Torino for the first time since 1996.
In order to achieve that the Bianconeri will need some help up front as well as added depth in mid-field. With Marchisio out injured for the beginning of the season and no time table for Sami Khedira’s return it is imperative for Juventus to add quality midfielders to the squad. Andre Gomes and Ngolo Kante are names that been floated around however several Premier League clubs, notably Manchester United and Chelsea are also pursuing the Portuguese and French international respectively.
Juventus’s greatest needs at the moment are up front. The departure of Morata back to Madrid was a huge blow to the Italian champions. Morata’s clutch goals will have to be replaced, and several interesting options remain.
