Napoli drew with Lazio 1-1 on Saturday night at the San Paolo for the club’s second consecutive draw.
Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri had a lot to say when he spoke to Sky Sport after the match.
“They are things that make you angry when someone doesn’t make a movement that is prepared and planned, it’s normal. The reactions are normal, if you put the camera on any coach [ you’d see that], but then I am one that gets angry on the bench and participates in it. If there is a comment to be made on the match I accept all that happened; 10 shots on goal to three, but the big regret is that the team expressing itself at high levels, perhaps the best since I’ve been at Napoli, but nets very little. It is a time in which we are not able to finish off this great superiority, but I’d be more concerned if the team did not construct [any chances].”
Sarri spoke about Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis’ comments on the team’s situation:
“Mertens had not played Wednesday and it’s clear that he would play tonight. I will not comment on the president, he has all the authority to give all the suggestions he wants. I am technical manager and I evaluate to make the final decision, I can listen to it, or not. What the president said does not seem to be the case in this moment. It would mean bringing Hamsik in a role that he hates and to move Callejon or Mertens. In this moment, it seems a blasphemy. We created [chances]; I cannot be worried if the team has these performances. I am disappointed if the team does not gather the points [that justifies] how they are playing.”
The azzurri boss also spoke about the team’s need to keep their heads up:
“In this moment, the way we defended between today, Juve and in Istanbul, we have conceded too much. We must proceed without feeling sorry four ourselves and without thinking of being unlucky, without thinking of who left in the summer and who got injured after. You can’t try things this morning and not bring to the field after ten hours, it seems to me a blasphemy.”
Napoli will need to string together some wins in order to gain ground on the teams in front of them. Napoli plays Udinese in Serie A action and faces Dynamo Kyiv in Champions League play after the upcoming international break.
