Matchday 28 brought the tipping point in the battle between Juventus and Napoli, but the war is far from over in this Serie A.
Juventus are finally back in command, for the first time since last season. It took them until March to reclaim the lead but at last, they have it, and a game in hand.
Should everything go according to plan, the Bianconeri could open up their lead to four points over Napoli, who not so long ago had a stranglehold on the table. After throwing their matches in Europe and not taking the Coppa Italia seriously, they put all their eggs in one basket which now is anything but a certainty. Dethroning the Old Lady is no easy task.
With that said, the Partenopei have endured a tremendous uphill climb in recent weeks. Taking on the likes of Inter, Roma, and Lazio already, while the Bianconeri still have to face some of Italy’s giants.
In fact, Juve’s schedule is so backloaded it’s fair to say that Napoli could very well still be the favorites. Not to mention Juventus’ European obligations.
Inter, Roma, Milan, Atalanta and Sampdoria all await Juventus in the upcoming months. While Napoli’s toughest opponents now are Milan and Fiorentina. And lest I forget the two sides will face each other in Turin on April 22nd. There are a lot of big games ahead that will determine the Scudetto race. Matchday 28 did not decide a thing.
