A much-traveled Ghanian is finally causing eyes to open and conversations to be sparked in the top-flight of Italian football.
24-year old, Accra-born Boadu Maxwell Acosty spent the last few years bouncing around various Serie B clubs while on loan from Fiorentina and only briefly tasted the main course of Serie A in 2012 and 2014. Despite a brief appearance at prestigious dinner table, it was back down to the lower league to continue honing his skills.
His introduction to calcio 101 began in the Primavera ranks of Reggiana. During the 2008/2009 Lega Pro season, Acosty earned himself a call-up to the Senior squad towards the tail end of the campaign, appearing in five games for the Teste Quadre. It was not longer after that Fiorentina came knocking on their door for the young Ghanian. Representing La Viola in the renowned Viareggio Cup in 2012, he hit the back of the net twice in the club’s opening game, a 6-1 romp of Stabaek. That same year in the Primavera campaign, he broke out with 11 goals in 10 appearances. It was enough for then-head coach Sinisa Mihajlovic, to offer him an invaluable opportunity to play for his Senior squad. After showcasing his talents in his five appearances in Serie A, the following years where to be a learning experience, plying his trade in Serie B to develop and add more first-team experiences under his belt.
A full campaign at Juve Stabia in 2013/2014 where he took the pitch 37 out of the 42 games, lead to another loan stint from Fiorentina and it would be back in the big times albeit with Chievo. The stay was short-lived as only six months in, he was shipped over to Carpi back in Serie B where he collected a solitary assists in 12 games. Again in 2014/2015, he remained in Serie B but with a new club again, Modena. A goal and an assists in 17 games and inches from facing the undesirable drop to Lega Pro, Acosty once again returned to his parent club Fiorentina only to reacquaint himself with Serie B for a fourth time, Latina becoming his latest home. Maybe not three but it seems like four times is indeed a charm for Acosty.
This current season is projecting to be one of his best statistically on a first-team. With 20 appearances so far for the Lazio-based club, he has six goals and three assists, performing above expectations. His numbers have finally gotten his talents noticed and as recently reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Atalanta and Empoli are said to be the two teams who have the most interest in bringing him on board in Serie A. The interest however, has not stopped there. Clubs from around France, Spain and Holland have taken notice of his production. Acosty could become a hot commodity on the mercato if he continues his impressive form.
For the moment, no official offers have been reported for the winger although it will be no surprise if Fiorentina’s phone begins ringing off the hook in the very near future.
