Even with 11 new signings this summer, there’s been one name coming from Milanisti over the summer and especially the last week, and his name is Patrick Cutrone.
The 19-year-old Milan Primavera product was given plenty of chances by coach Vincenzo Montella this summer, and he surely has made the most of them. Scoring in his pre-season debut against Young Boys, then scoring two fantastic goals against Bayern Munich in China, adding to the aggregate lead against Craiova at San Siro, and drawing a penalty, scoring a goal and providing an assist in his Serie A debut away to Crotone.
He’s proven all summer that he can play with the big guns, scoring in almost every match he’s featuring in. Cutrone is also showing some Pippo Inzaghi qualities in his game, always finding room behind defenders with penetrating runs. Now, we have to consider the question, does Gianpiero Ventura select Patrick Cutrone for the Nazionale’s two World Cup Qualification matches against Israel and Spain? It’s definitely up for debate, so let’s talk about it.
Personally, I love everything about Cutrone’s game. Inzaghi is one of my all-time favourite players, so I’m forced to admire the 19 year old. He’s a player, like Gianluigi Donnarumma, who isn’t afraid of any situation, a player that can be thrown in anywhere without nervousness.
Ventura giving him a call-up could be a major confidence booster for the teenager. Yes, these qualifications are absolutely CRUCIAL to the Azzurri’s World Cup 2018 hopes and avoiding a two-game playoff with another second seeded team. Even if he’s not able to find any minutes, just being there and experiencing life with the other Azzurri players in training and even on the bench could be very beneficial for the youngster. We’ve seen Ventura call up a few youngsters in the past, so Cutrone may very well could be selected because of his fantastic form.
With the likes of Andrea Belotti, Ciro Immobile and Eder basically being locks for the Azzurri strikeforce, I wouldn’t be alarmed to see Cutrone slide in there behind them, to possibly get some minutes against Israel if the match is out of reach. Regardless, even if he doesn’t see the pitch in the two qualifiers, there’s still so many benefits that can help him improve. Cutrone is a young talent that Milan want to make sure gets minutes, and Montella looks to be giving some trust in him, deciding not to send him on loan this summer.
So, should Ventura take a chance and consider Patrick Cutrone for the Nazionale’s upcoming qualifiers? My answer, is sure, why not? Currently, there’s no better Italian strikers who are in the current form that the Rossoneri teen has, so it’s a low risk move to bring him along.
The future is bright for Patrick Cutrone, with Milan and hopefully the Azzurri. It’s only right to introduce him to the national team as soon as we can.
