Inter coach Luciano Spalletti wants a reunion with former Zenit midfielder Axel Witsel as he reportedly phones him in China.
Nerazzurri boss Luciano Spalletti has made it clear this transfer window he intends to add recruitments to his side, and despite being on the verge of completing loan deals for Brazilian duo Rafinha and Ramires, the Italian would like another option in midfield.
According to Rai Sport, Spalletti has contacted his old Zenit player Axel Witsel about a move to the San Siro.
Witsel is currently playing for Fabio Cannavaro’s Tianjin Quanjian in the Chinese Super League, but the Belgium international spent five years in Russia at Zenit St Petersburg from 2012, having enjoyed playing under Spalletti for two seasons – and a reunion is on the cards as the relationship between the pair is a positive one.
The 29-year old has been close to a Serie A move in the past as he was on the verge of signing for Juventus and spent an entire day sitting in the Juventus HQ on transfer deadline day before the move fell through as Zenit couldn’t find a replacement in time.
Witsel will have another chance to showcase his talent in Italy if Inter are able to agree on an appropriate deal with Tianjin Quanjian. However, it would only be a loan deal because Witsel was recently signed by the Chinese outfit in January 2017.
