Milan win their first major trophy in five years as they defeat Juventus in a penalty shootout.

Here are the Rossoneri’s player ratings against Juventus.

Goalkeeper

Gianluigi Donnarumma (8.5): An outstanding match from the 17-year-old. Probably his best match of the season so far, he made 8 saves and a CRUCIAL penalty save on Dybala that led Milan to victory.

Defenders

Ignazio Abate (7.5): A solid outing from the captain. Ignazio used his pace on the right side, put a few decent balls in and provided Suso with support all match.

Gabriel Paletta (8.5): An absolutely superb showing from Paletta. He’s proving that he earns every penny of an increased salary and contract extension. He was on the ball so often and gave Mandzukic and Higuain no room to move.

Alessio Romagnoli (8.5): The future of Italy. The partnership was once again terrific. Alessio was great on the ball, made nice link up passes and also denied Higuain and Mandzukic of space.

Mattia De Sciglio (7.5): A good match from Mattia. Played on the left side behind Bonaventura, he joined the rush a few times providing the overlap, and put in a few crosses. Also made some solid defensive efforts throughout the match.

Midfielders

Juraj Kucka (7.0): Kuco was active all match and played 120 minutes with pride for the crest. He ran extremely hard, won several balls back and distributed them back out wide to keep possession. Had a few lack luster touches but his performance was crucial to victory.

Manuel Locatelli (7.5): The 18-year-old regista put in another hard-working performance. Only played 70 minutes, but he was very good on the ball and extremely composed. Made a few great tackles that won the ball back, he seems to keep getting better in every big match.

Andrea Bertolacci (7.0): Bertolacci looked way better playing the mezzala role as opposed to regista last week. Didn’t get tons of touches on the ball but made a few nice passes when needed. Also tracked back well, he looks to be at full fitness.

Forwards

Giacomo Bonaventura (9.0 MOTM): The best player on the pitch for both teams. Playing on the left wing, Bonaventura scored an outstanding glancing header to tie things up for the Rossoneri. He put in many delightful balls into the box, and was just immense on the ball throughout the 120 minutes. Scored his penalty as well.

Carlos Bacca (6.5): Carlitos really did work hard tonight. His first start in a while, Bacca did look lively and pressured the Juventus defence when needed. Had a few clear-cut chances to score but was robbed by Buffon on his header.

Suso Fernandez (9.0): Just like Bonaventura, Suso looked world-class tonight. His left foot on the right side was lethal, and Juventus couldn’t handle him all night. He got the assist with his stunning cross for Bonaventura’s goal, and patrolled the right side like he’s been doing it for years. An amazing performance from the Spaniard.

Substitutions

Mario Pasalic (7.5): Came on for Locatelli in the 73rd minute, but this was definitely his best game in a Milan jersey yet. Was very determined on the ball, made a few nice moves and distributed the ball when needed. Had a chance at goal as well late in extra time. Scored a beautiful penalty to win the SuperCoppa Italiana.

Luca Antonelli (6.5): Came on for a cramped up Abate in extra time, but looked good at left-back for the last 19 minutes. Nothing went by him.

Gianluca Lapadula (6.0): Despite his missed penalty in the shootout, he only played 19 minutes as well and only touched the ball a couple of times. Pressured the Juventus defence with his fresh legs.

Coach

Vincenzo Montella (8.0): An absolute masterclass from Vincenzo. With a young, fighting side he managed to go toe-to-toe with Juventus twice already this season. Made the right substitutions when needed, and his game-plan worked to perfection.
