Three games three wins for Napoli as they earned three points Saturday night with a 2-0 win over Atlanta at the Stadio San Paolo. Rafa Benitez reached into his bench on Saturday night, giving Dries Mertens, Paolo Cannavaro, Giandomenico Mesto and Blerim Dzemai an opportunity to start. However it wasn’t until Marek Hamšík and Jose Maria Cellejon came into the game in 66’ and 59’ minute that the game began to shift.
Napoli started off the game slow and sloppy, Goran Pandev had two great chances on goal however could not put the ball in the back of the net. After Rafa Benitez inserted team captain and catalyst Marek Hamšík in the 66’ minute Napoli began moving the ball around more efficiently. In the 71st minute Gonzalo Higuain scored his first goal at the Stadio San Paolo off of a Hamšík assist. Ten minutes later Jose Maria Cellejon scored his third goal in three games for Napoli closing out an impressive second half and sealing their third straight league win.
Next, Napoli gets ready for their Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund, they will have a fully rested Juan Carlos Zuniga and Valon Behrami for what should be an epic match at San Paolo. Up next in league play for Napoli will be AC Milan the following Sunday.
