Riccardo Montolivo, as we are well aware of, is the captain of Milan whether fans like it or not. With this armband comes responsibility and leadership. However, the Rossoneri currently lack quite a bit in both departments.

Milan went into the break trailing 2-0 thanks to Arkadiusz Milik’s first-half brace. Whatever manager Vincenzo Montella said inside the dressing room at the half did seem to resonate with the men. M’Baye Niang and Suso each scored quality goals to erase the deficit, however the lapses did not disappear.

Despite Jose Callejon’s goal to give Napoli the advantage, Milan were still very much in the match to at least escape the San Paolo with a point. The biggest threat to Milan in the second half were themselves and the lack of discipline.

Juraj Kucka was sent off with his second yellow before Niang followed him after grabbing Jose Reina.

When on a yellow, you can’t put yourself in a position to get sent off. Bottom line: Kucka and Niang have to be more disciplined and control their emotions. Not only did Milan suffer at the end of this, they are now without two starters for the match against Udinese. A captain has to be able to get through to his teammates and keep them under control.
