1. Maurizio Sarri has really changed the mentality of this club
Fans of football constantly praise Sarri for his play-style, dubbing it “Sarrismo.” However, Sarri should also be admired for his influence on the club’s winning mentality.
Napoli has already trailed in two of its first five league matches. Trailing hasn’t mattered though, because the Azzurri have come back to win both those games. Those opponents were Atalanta, and Lazio on Wednesday night. For Napoli to be able to compose itself and storm back to win in Rome by three goals is something worth noting.
The Partenopei have also already faced two newly promoted sides and beat them both. Napoli defeated Hellas Verona 3-1 on opening night with ease. Then on Sunday, the club dismantled Benevento 6-0 in the Derby della Campania. While Bologna isn’t newly promoted, Napoli still picked up a 3-0 win away from home.
In the past couple of seasons, Napoli may have hit a roadblock against one of these teams. However, Sarri has instilled the will to win on this club. The Italian has convinced these players that it’s their time to win it all. If Napoli can put together a performance like it did on Wednesday night even after trailing 1-0 at the Olimpico, then they should be able to use that mentality to combat any of the Serie A giants this season. This club has grit.
