Recently there has been lots of talk surrounding the play of Palermo forward Franco Vázquez. It has been reported that Azzurri boss Antonio Conte may call him up for the next round of international fixtures.
At the moment Vázquez tops the assist charts in Serie A and leads the league with 9. In addition to this, the 25 year old has found the back of the net on 7 occasions. Given the player’s good form, all the major media outlets have called for the player to be called up to the national team. The Palermo player hold dual citizenship and can choose to play for either Italy or Argentina. When asked about the possiblity of representing Italy on the international stage, he told Sky Sport,:
“I already know the Italian national anthem. I’m hoping for the callup.”
The player was then asked about his decision to sign a renewal with the rosanero. He said,:
“The decision to sign a renewal was a personal one. At Palermo, I am really happy. I have to and only want to think about Palermo. In the summer, we’ll see what happens. Prior to my arrival at Palermo, I’ve had some difficult experiences. However, I have worked hard in order to redeem myself. I didn’t have belief in my abilities before Iachini arrived. He’s given me a lot of confidence by talking with me often. Now I’m happy.”
