Fiorentina wants to offer Federico Bernardeschi a contract extension and is willing to include a €65 million release clause, according to La Nazione.
The 22-year-old has been performing at a high level for La Viola. The better the performances, the more teams around Europe are that will take interest in the Italian midfielder. English Premier League side, Chelsea have already made Bernardeschi a transfer target.
The player’s current deal with Fiorentina expires in 2019. Therefore, the Serie A side wants to offer him an extension to keep him at the club, according to calciomercato.com. The site reports that Fiorentina wants to add at least one more year to Bernardeschi’s new contract. The team is willing to include a €65 million release clause in the deal.
Chelsea may then have to pay €65 million in order to pry Bernardeschi away from Italy.
Bernardeschi’s performances may warrant that type of money, if he continues his current form. The player has scored 10 goals in all competitions in 24 appearances for Fiorentina. He has also recorded two assists.
The Italian’s latest impressive performance came in the Fiorentina vs. Napoli clash on Dec. 22. Bernardeschi was clearly the man of the match in the Serie A matchup. He scored two goals to keep the match at bay, tying the game twice. Then, the youngster assisted on Mauro Zarate’s goal.
A new deal for Bernardeschi seems to be on the way. The young star and Fiorentina will be back in action against Pescara on Jan. 8.
