Walter Mazzarri’s Press Conference After The Bologna Clash

Mazzarri

Walter Mazzarri was interviewed after the draw with Bologna. Mazzarri was left with a bitter taste in his mouth, similar to that experienced after the away draws with Cagliari and Torino.

Here are the words of the coach in a press conference:

” We are throwing away important victories . We didn’t win the match, but we are happy with how the team is growing . We are trying to impose our game on all fields. I say we as I am referring to everyone in the Inter organization.”

When asked if he could reach 3rd place, Mazzarri replied:

“In my meeting with Thohir, we decided that we needed to respect each others roles on the squad. I met with the ownership and we did our evaluations of our expectations of the squad. I will only speak of the technical choices I can make and I will try to do my best with what I have.”

When asked about the extent of Yuto Nagatomo’s injury, he answered by saying:

” I don’t know the condition of his injury yet, but I’m afraid it’s quite bad. Palacio also suffered a knock with the Argentian national team. Not even Yuto can tell you the extent of the injury yet.”

Soon, Mazzarri was presented with a question about the “Killer Instinct” of the squad and said:

” Let us worry about the match for now. It seems a bit absurd, but we did a lot of good things tonight but we have so many things wrong as well. If we didn’t concede a cheap goal, perhaps we would have done enough for a 1-0 win.  It’s a shame , but we can see the positive side in this result. We produce so much attack and we give little up to opponents. Bologna is an average team with important players. If we had not conceded that nonsense goal, we would have won. Unfortunately, sometimes things don’t go well, but the important thing is to build on these mistakes. We need to improve in terms of finishing. Guarin and Palacio don’t always mess up goals, but football is cruel. Milito and Icardi could have started and we would have been comfortable with them. Icardi in love? That is another waste of energy (laughing).”

Someone asked about Inter’s ability to contend for the scudetto, in which the manager answered:

“We have a great chance, and I’m very happy with my players. They are great professionals, but of course I would like more, I always look for perfection. A football game can never be perfect . The growth of some players is obvious, some “veterans” are doing very well, such as Cambiasso . Juan Jesus and Rolando are also doing very well.”

Another interviewer asked if this was the best squad he’d ever coached, in which he replied:

“It’s very hard to say that right now. My Naples finished second last year, but didn’t challenge Juve enough. We won a place in the Champions League. The match against Roma did not really count. Let’s see where we can go this season with Inter.”

When asked about the referee only giving two minutes of injury time, he says:

“There should have been 4 changes but instead the referee needed to give more. Juan Jesus’s shot might have ended up a bit different, and who knows what would have happened if he had more of an angle, especially because it was in the last minute.”

Finally, when asked about the match of Mateo Kovacic he responded:

“I expected more offense by our number 10, I was hoping he would be able to give a hand to the team because I needed his quality desperately in attack. We all wanted to win this game, but unfortunately we did not succeed.”
