The Italy international will be sidelined for the rest of the season.
Angelo Ogbonna has been battling with a knee injury all season long and West Ham have decided to shut him down for the foreseeable future.
After beating Middlesborough 3-1 on the road, manager Slaven Bilic confirmed to the press the extent of Ogbonna’s injury.
“I have to praise Angelo Ogbonna, because he has played the whole season with an injury. He needs an operation on his knee to be fit long-term, and it was supposed to be a couple of weeks but we asked him to play a couple more games.
“He will now have it after today’s game which will rule him out until the end of the season.
Ogbonna signed with West Ham from Juventus in 2015 for €11 million after spending a couple of years with the Bianconeri.
This season with West Ham, he played 24 matches in all competitions before being sidelined through injury.
